Hazardous Area Testing

It is vital to ensure safe inspection and testing procedures for electrical equipment installed in potentially explosive environments.

Failure to implement safe working practices could result in the ignition of explosive gases and resultant dangers for both people and property.

Installations in fuel filling stations are regulated by ATEX and DSEAR legislation, and only appropriately trained engineers should carry out electrical testing in these areas.

Circuit Compliance is a member of the Association of Petroleum and Explosive Administration (APEA), testing to APEA Blue Book standards. Our hazardous area testing engineers are fully qualified to the relevant CompEx 07/08 standards so you know you’re in safe hands.

Our engineers conduct professional and well-managed inspection processes for electrical installations operating in potentially explosive environments and atmospheres, delivering comprehensive hazardous area inspection reports to ensure compliance with all current standards and ensuring that clients meet all legal requirements.

There are usually three different grades of hazardous area inspections that can occur:

  • Visual hazardous area inspections: This particular inspection identifies the hazardous area without the use of equipment or tools, and is apparent to the eye.
  • Close hazardous area inspections: This includes the inspection aspects related to visual inspection, but also identifies the defects through the use of equipment and tools.
  • Detailed hazardous area inspections: This covers the previous two inspections but also identifies defects through opening the enclosure or using tools and test equipment when necessary. This can require the dismantling of cable glands and equipment to be de-energised to ensure that it’s completely up to the best standard possible.
